Other Activities
In addition to its many superlative natural attractions, Lord Howe Island offers a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages and fitness levels. It’s an ideal destination for families or, equally, for a romantic getaway.
Golf
Lord Howe has a nine-hole golf course where clubs
can be hired for a round on one of the most scenic golf courses in Australia -
overlooking the lagoon with a towering back-drop of Mt. Ligbird. The Lord Howe Open
Golf Tournament is held in November each year and visitors are
welcome.
Lawn Bowls
The Island has its own lawn bowling green and club house, and there are
two major bowls tournaments annually (early December and late January). Individual
bowlers are welcome year round, and visiting clubs often join in the
tournaments.
Tennis
There are three tennis courts on the island, available
to guests of Blue Lagoon, Ocean View and Pinetrees. The Blue Lagoon tennis court can be booked by Island visitors at Thompson's Store, ph 65632155.
Bike Riding
Lord Howe has some 13 km of scenic roads and tracks,
perfect for bike riding. With the speed limit for cars set at 25 km per hour,
cyclists rule the island roads and pedal power is the favoured mode of
transport.
Bikes can be hired at reasonable rates, and are the perfect form of transport to beaches, shops, restaurants and to the starting points for the best walking tracks.
Spa and Beauty Treatments
Capella Lodge offers a range of treatments
for men and women tailored to various island experiences. 'Gower's Foot
Therapy' is a post-climb soother while 'Sacred Stone Therapy' uses
heated basalt stones from the island's windward beaches in conjunction
with massage.
Arajilla
Retreat's spa menu focuses on hydration and rejuvenation through
massage and the use of natural products. Treatments include signature
facials such as the 'Kamalasundrai' which uses fruits and botanical
herbs to fortify the skin and 'Ayurda' body treatments that use nuts,
grains and flowers for their rejuvenation qualities.
