Lord Howe - World Heritage Area

In 1982 Lord Howe Island was listed as a world heritage area joining the Great Barrier Reef, Kakadu National Park and Willandra Lakes for this honour. This article goes back some seven million years giving an overview of the island's natural and human history.

History of Lord Howe Museum
In the mid 1970s, a small group of Island residents led by Jim Dorman formed the Lord Howe Island Historical Society.

The Woodhen that Roared   
A history of the Island's postal service including the establishment of the LHI Courier Post in 1999 and its battle with Australia Post.

Permanent Park Preserve and Walking tracks  
To protect the environment on the Island a Permanent Park Preserve was declared in 1981, administered by the Lord Howe Island Board with essentially the same management guidelines as a National Park. Includes
