Lord Howe Island lies approximately 700 km northeast of Sydney and southeast of Brisbane, Australia, at the same latitude as Port Macquarie, NSW. It forms part of the state of New South Wales.

Apart from sailing your own yacht, the only feasible way to reach Lord Howe is by air.

QantasLink offers year-round scheduled services to Lord Howe Island from Sydney.

Flight time is under two hours, with flights departing daily from Sydney.

There are connecting services with Qantas from all Australian capital cities and with QantasLink from many regional centers.

Eastern Air Services offer weekly flights and charters from Port Macquarie, the Gold Coast and Newcastle to Lord Howe.

QantasLink will fly you to Lord Howe Island on a modern, pressurised Dash-8 Turbo Prop aircraft. Complimentary in-flight refreshments are provided by your flight attendant on all services.

Fares and Qantas Frequent Flyer Points

QantasLink offers a wide range of fares to Lord Howe Island. Flight reward points can be earned if you have Qantas or One World Frequent Flyer membership. Qantas Frequent flyer redemption seats are offered on select flights.

Baggage Allowance

Each passenger travelling to Lord Howe Island is permitted 23kg per person of checked baggage, one bag at 14kilos and one bag deemed excess baggage at 9kilos and 7kg of carry-on baggage. This is due to strict weight restrictions placed on the aircraft travelling to the Island. The 14kg baggage restriction also applies to all passengers, including passengers connecting from International flights. QantasLink cannot guarantee that excess baggage will arrive on the Island on the same day of travel but will do all possible to get the excess baggage to the island on the next available flight.

Importance of Confirming Accommodation Prior to Purchase of Airfares

The tourist bed limit on Lord Howe is capped at 400, so it is strongly recommended that accommodation on the Island is confirmed prior to purchasing airfares – as many fares have special conditions relating to flight changes and may be non-refundable.

In order to assist and protect travellers, QantasLink has appointed authorised travel wholesalers who have many years experience packaging holidays to Lord Howe.

The typical holiday package combines airfare, accommodation and airport transfers and can include meals if desired. Authorised wholesalers are well prepared to handle bookings from any state in Australia or overseas, and will solve the problem of integrating airfare with available accommodation.

If you have a preferred local travel agent, the wholesaler will also work with your own travel agent to arrange all details of your Lord Howe itinerary.

Baggage Allowance 

Due to the strict weight restrictions placed on the aircraft travelling to Lord Howe Island, each passenger travelling to Lord Howe Island is restricted to 14kg baggage.  We cannot guarantee that excess baggage (charges will apply) will arrive on the island on the same day of travel but we will do all possible to get the excess baggage to the island on the next available flight or as soon as possible.

As there is a cap on the tourist beds on Lord Howe Island, we strongly recommend that accommodation on the island is confirmed prior to purchasing airfares.
